ABSTRACT:
Background: Diabetes commonly affects individuals the world over. In India, it affects all the parts of the country irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, andrace. According to International Diabetic Federation, diabetes affects more females than males. The rate of incidence is rising every day. Therefore, it is important to assessthe knowledge of management of diabetes among diabetic patients. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and attitude, practice of diabetes management among diabetic patients in selected settings inMysuru and also to determine the association between the levels of the knowledge, attitude, practice on diabetes with theirselectedpersonnel variable. Methodology: Research Approach: Descriptive research approach was used for this study. Research Design: Descriptive research design was selected for this study. Setting: Setting refers to the area where thestudy was conducted. This study was conducted in Nadanahalli rural areas of Varuna PHC, Mysuru. Population: The target population for the study included Diabetes patients from Nadanahalli village, rural areas of Varuna PHC, Mysuru. Sample: Diabetes patients from Nadanahalli village, rural areas of Varuna PHC, Mysuru. Participants: Thirty diabetic patients Sampling Techniques: Convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample. Result: The majority of diabetic patients demonstrated moderate knowledge on diabetes. Only a few diabetic patients had adequate knowledge. The overall mea knowledge scores of the diabetic patients were 23.16 with SD4. Majority of them is having neutral attitude i.e. 28.17 with SD of 3.09 with mean value of 79.57.and the practice score is 29.18 with SD 5.04. related to association Out of many variables, age, gender, education were found to be significant with the knowledge of 0.05levels. andage, occupation and education significant with attitude gender and education were found to have significant association with practice 0.05 level.

INTRODUCTION:
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. It may be due to impaired insulin secretion, resistance to peripheral actions of insulin, or both. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), approximately 415 million adults between the ages of 20 to 79 years had diabetes mellitus in 2015. DM is proving to be a global public health burden as this number is expected to rise to another 200 million by 2040. Chronic hyperglycemia in synergy with the other metabolic aberrations in patients with diabetes mellitus can cause damage to various organ systems, leading to the development of disabling and life-threatening health complications, most prominent of which are microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) and macrovascular complications leading to a 2-fold to 4-fold increased risk of cardiovascular diseases1.
Diabetes has steadily increased in India and around the world over the last three decades, with India accounting for a sizable portion of the global burden. India's disease patterns have shown a switch due to an epidemiological transition: thus mortality from communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases (CMNNDs) has decreased significantly, while NCDs and injuries have markedly increased their contribution to overall disease burden and mortality2. Thus, an effective health promotion and primary prevention, at both, individual and population levels are the need of the hour to curb the diabetes epidemic and reduce diabetes-related complications in India.
Globally, according to World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 422 million adults are living withdiabetes mellitus. It is prevalent throughout the world, but is more common in developed countries.4 However, the greatest increase in prevalence is being observed inlow- and middle-income countries where most patientswillprobably be found by 20306. Hence it’s important to assess the knowledge attitude and practice of the diabetic people to manage the diabetic as well in gross root level.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
The present study was aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice on management of diabetes among diabetic patients in selected settings of Mysuru.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of management of diabetes among diabetic patients in Nadanahalli Rural Community, Mysuru.
2. To determine the association between the level of the knowledge, attitude and practice on diabetes with their selected personnel variable.
Hypothesis:
H1: There will be a significant association between the knowledge score on management of diabetes with their selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.
H0: There will not be a significant association between the knowledge score on management of diabetes and selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.
H2: There will be a significant association between the attitude on management of diabetes with their selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.
H20: There will not be a significant association between the attitude on management of diabetes with their selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.
H3: There will be a significant association between the practice on management of diabetes with their selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.
H30: There will not be a significant association between the practice on management of diabetes with their selected demographic variable of diabetic patients.

4. To determine the association between the level of the knowledge, attitude and practice on diabetes with the ir selected personnel variable. The selected personalvariablesuchasage, gender and education were found to have significant association with level of knowledge0.05 level.
5.
The selected personal variable such as age, occupation and education were found to have significant association with attitude 0.05 level.
The selected personal variable such as gender, Education were found to have significant association with practice of 0.05 level.
The majority of diabetic patients demonstrated moderate knowledge on diabetics. Only few diabetic patients had adequate knowledge. The overall mean knowledge scores of the diabetic patientswere23.16withSD4.08. Majority of them is having neutral attitude i.e 28.17 with SD of 3.09 with mean value of 79.57and the practice score is 29.18 with SD 5.04 related to association Out of many variables, age, gender, education were found to be significant with the knowledge of 0.05 level and age, occupation and education significant with attitude and gender and education were found to have significant association with 0.05 level with practice.
RECOMMENDATION
The following recommendation were made based on the result of the study
1. A large study can be conducted to generalize the findings.
2. A large scale study can be conducted to assess the Attitude and practice to treat the diabetes.
